Um zu entscheiden, wo ich als nächstes hinfahre, werfe ich eine Münze beim Four Corners Monument und drehe dabei eine Filmszene nach. Wer kann erraten, woher diese Szene stammt? Schließlich geht es weiter nach Arizona, wo ich zunächst den Petrified-Forest-Nationalpark besuche, wo es vor allem sehr alte Bäume zu sehen gibt, genauer gesagt über 200 Millionen Jahre alt. Mit gerade einmal sechs Millionen Jahren, ist der Gran Canyon da doch deutlich jünger, wo es mich als nächstes hinzieht. Natürlich ist dieser Nationalpark deutlich berühmter und stärker besucht, aber ein Besuch ist natürlich Pflicht, wenn man schon mal in der Gegend ist. Aber schließlich versuche ich dem Massentourismus etwas zu entkommen, indem ich einen Wanderweg ins Innere des Canyons nehme.
To decide where to go to next, I throw a coin at Four Corners Monument and I actually play a movie scene there. Who can guess where this scene is from? I the end I continue to Arizona, where I start with the Petrified Forest National Park, where there is very old trees, which are about 200 million years old. The Grand Canyon, where I go next, is much younger, about 6 million years. Of course this national park is way more famous and has more visitors, but it’s an obligation for me to visit anyway, since I am in the area. But to escape the mass of tourists, I take a hiking trail, down into the canyon.
